Take Time for Yourself

Take Time for Yourself…Really

WorkHard

Do you ever feel like you have to go, go, go and find it hard to stop and recharge to Take Time for Yourself?

So many people I talk with, friends, clients and business partners, find it hard to put the work down to take care of themselves. They either feel like they “should be” working or “need to” do one more thing or “have so many things to do.” Whether a stay at home mom, working for someone or running your business, most people struggle with balancing all the to-do’s and taking care of themselves…Do you struggle with taking time for yourself?

I have to work at taking time to recharge myself! As an entrepreneur I find myself constantly thinking of ideas to write down for one of my programs or an email I can send to a client or someone I can reach out to or…..I know many of you know what I am talking about right?!? Sunday night I was watching a movie with my husband and found myself reaching for my phone several times to make a note or create a calendar event. I finally put my phone in the other room so I couldn’t reach for it. Whew…that helped and then I realized hello…relax and cuddle up with your hubby. Breathe, relax, be present.

Why Taking Time For Yourself Is So Important

Think about this…when our cellphone and laptop gets low on battery we plug them in and charge them up. We take time to gas up our cars so we can drive to where we need to be. We have our kids rest so they are ready to go school or the next event. You have probably heard the analogy about the oxygen mask on the airplane right? Well we need to take time for yourself so we can do all the things we want to do.

“Me” time is not something you should feel guilty about. It’s nothing more than taking some time to put aside your everyday business and treating yourself to an activity that you enjoy. It gives you an opportunity to relax, refocus and recharge. And when we do that, we are able to work hard and kick butt with greater focus, commitment and enjoyment.

Tips to Taking Time for Yourself

Commit to a minimum of 15-20 minutes of “me” time every day. Do something (or nothing) that completely lets go of responsibilities and releases your mind, allowing you to be alone with your thoughts.

Create a daily ritual. This can be a bath, listening to music, taking a walk or meditating, talking with a good friend or sometimes simply focusing on breathing in and out. Make it something you can look forward to. Every morning I do some stretches before I get out of bed while reviewing things I am grateful for. Then I spend 5-10 minutes in my mediation room getting grounded and present, saying my affirmations, more stretches, and my daily reading. (details on that in another blog).

Have fun! Watch a movie, go to the beach, get a massage, whatever is fun for you….do it.

Do What Is True To You Talk about what matters most to you. Write about things that are important to you. Act in ways that feel the most authentic to who you are and who you want to be.

Fueling your body.  Of course I have to mention what we eat, when we eat, proper supplementation and water. 😉 Make sure you are fueling your body with balanced nutrition my friend. This will help to give us energy and a clear head to focus on all you want to accomplish.

Now go out & kick butt, work hard at making a difference and take time for yourself too!

Feel free to share this with your peeps and drop me a comment if you like these tips. These are just some ways to take time for yourself. What are some other ways that work for you? Please share in the comments!
